The Greenhouse Effect

Almeria, Spain has the largest expanse of greenhouses in the world, totaling around 26,000 hectares. For about 30 years now, the people of this south-eastern portion of Spain have been replacing their pasture land with greenhouses which is now proving to have an astonishing effect, not one which they may have expected. The University of Almeria has been studying temperature trends between the semi-arid pasture land that covers this land and the land covered with the greenhouses that have been built over time. Their watchful eye has noticed a disparity in the air temperature above these two types of land. Since 1983, air temperature has cooled by an average 0.3°C while the rest of Spain has warmed by 0.5°C. The researchers at the university believe that the white roofs that cover the greenhouses are reflecting sunlight and thus lowering the local air temperature. This demonstrates the potential for building reflectors in semi-arid regions of the world to help offset the effects of global warming.

I don’t know about you, but this type of global warming science almost always reminds me of Highlander 2. You know, the one where there’s a giant force field around the Earth protecting it from the sun’s harsh rays after the ozone has been depleted.

Reminds me of this LA Times article from Sept. Stat worth noting from the article:
“Globally, roofs account for 25% of the surface of most cities, and pavement accounts for about 35%. If all were switched to reflective material in 100 major urban areas, it would offset 44 metric gigatons of greenhouse gases…”
or there is always this.
Hi! Interesting post. Do you believe anyone will do this? Is there anything else you think I should know? Any other rules?
I am little curious to know more about it………
